Energy-efficient lighting

Lighting is responsible for about ten percent of electricity use in Scandinavia.

A LED light (light-emitting diodes) lasts for 50 000 - 100 000 hours and uses up to 80 percent less energy than an incandescent light bulb. LED lights are expected to form about 90 percent of the market by 2020.

Using LED also eliminates another problem: heat. For example, most stores produce a great deal of excess heat, but it is more desirable for lighting to generate as little heat as possible, particularly in warmer parts of the world.  If all Norwegian households changed six of their light bulbs to energy-saving bulbs, Norway would save the same amount of electricity as the total annual electricity consumption of Tromsø.
